The cultural version of “happiness” is based on circumstances — comfort, pleasure, success, feelings, and personal fulfillment. When we believe God’s highest goal is our happiness, we can start to justify sin, avoid obedience, and walk away from faith when life gets hard. If God’s main goal were to make us happy, He wouldn’t call us to deny ourselves, carry our cross, or suffer for righteousness. God doesn’t want you to be happy, he wants you to be holy.
