Think for a moment about the first time you heard about a product or leadership rollout that was going to radically change history, or at least your little corner of the world. Maybe you remember the first iPod, or even more radical, the cordless phone? Jesus as he rolls out his discipleship plan, doesn’t build up how great it’s going to be, how it’s going to make your life so much easier, no, he does almost the opposite. He’s about to send his disciples out, and he prepares us and them for what it means to be his disciple. Being a disciple, a follower of Jesus, changes our identity and how we interact with those around us in a radical way.
